Teji festival Mustang
Overview
Tiji or Teji festival is the annual event of indigenous community of Upper Mustang, specially in Lo-Manthang region of Nepal. It is a celebration and reaffirmation of myth of 3 days ritual festival means “the chasing of the demons”. It tells the story of deity of Dorje Jono, who battled against the demon to save the Mustang Kingdom from destruction. And he defeated the demons and banishes him from the land caused from storms and drought that destroy peoples’ houses and livestock and translated into prayer for the world peace. There will be dance performance by monks on these 3 days ritual festival namely “Tsa Chham” on the first day, “Nga Chham” on the second day and “Rha Chham” on the third day. It is believed that the village will be purified from the bad evil spirits from then.
Tiji festival falls on 27th to 29th days of third month according to Tibetan calendar (April/May of every year). It is organized by Chhyode Gumba which is monastery of Sakyapa sect located in Lo-Manthang, Upper MUSTANG.The festival is timed to coincide with the end of the dry season (late winter/spring) and ushers in the wetter monsoon season.

Day 01 May 23: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02 May 24: Kathmandu: Free day or City Sightseeing (pay Locally for sightseeing).

Day 03 May 25: Drive to Pokhara (820 m-2,690 ft) – 06 hrs journey distance 220 k.m.

Day 04 May 26: Fly to Jomsom (2,713 m-8,901 ft), trek to Kagbeni (2,810 m9,219 ft) -04 hrs.

Day 05 May 27: Trek to Tshele (Chele) (3,050 m-10,06 ft) – 06 hrs.

Day 06 May 28: Trek to Geling (3,540 m-11,614 ft) – 06 hrs.

Day 07 May 29: Trek to Tsarang (Charang) (3,560 m-11,680 ft) – 06 hrs.

Day 08 May 30: Trek to Lo-Manthang (3,700 m-12,139 ft) – 05 hrs.

Day 09-10-11 May 31- June 1-2: In Lo-Manthang to observe the festival.

Day 12 June 3: Trek to Yara (3,550 m-11,646 ft) – 05 hrs.

Day 13 June 4: Trek to Luri Gompa (3,900 m-12,795 ft) – 03 hrs.
